Photographer Stephen Stinson loves his role as image maker and storyteller. The cookbook project “Soby’s New South Cuisine” published in 2007 by Table 301, and its companion “Soby’s New South Cuisine 2nd Edition”, published in 2015, have been favorites of Stephen’s because of his love of food and the time spent in the kitchen. “I soaked up cooking skills from my grandmother and mother watching them in the kitchen, and listened to my uncle, an architect, talk about design, and my aunt share her stories of a career in advertising.” “Those experiences opened my eyes and helped grow my love for cooking, my appreciation for design, my observation of surroundings, and my love of people.”
Despite an early desire to play his Fender bass in a rock band with his friends from high school, he went on to study at the Art Institute of Atlanta where he received a degree in photography. Whether he is shooting architecture, product, people, or food, he has the technical ability, eye for lighting, and “pre-visualization” that help him “get in the zone for the shoot”. Stinson has exhibited his fine art black & white photography many times and created a series of over 100 artists portraits for the book ‘Artists Among Us’, published in 2011 by Hub City Press.
Stephen has had the pleasure of working with corporations, magazines, advertising agencies, colleges, businesses, and individuals throughout the years shooting from ladders, planes, helicopters, boats, rooftops, cars, trucks, islands, and flat on the ground. 🙂
